fallout

Finally, the glorious return of Grey's Anatomy.  Oh, how I've missed it.

Overall, I thought this was a pretty great episode.  As always, here are my thoughts:

Derek all disheveled and un-showered on the couch eating Alex's cereal and sitting on Lexie's keys while the roommates huddle together and talk about him = awesome

Derek all dressed up for his meeting with the lawyers sinking into depression about his death rate and walking out on the Chief = not so good

Derek drunkenly hitting beer cans (and a diamond ring) with a baseball bat after having moved all his stuff out of Meredith's house = very bad news

I was proud of Meredith in the last scene where she refused to be scared off by all the terrible things he was saying to her, I am actually kind of enjoying the role reversal where she's the grownup and he's the scared running away one.  But only if this gets worked out very quickly; I'll buy that she's healed these days but I will not buy that she's going to sit around and let him yell mean things at her for a long time.  She's an extraordinary woman, after all.

I enjoyed Mark making fun of Derek for his "creepy, perfect hair" and I'm not really mad at him for not trying to talk to Derek since the fight.  Granted, Mark has not always been the world's greatest friend, but he's taken a lot of crap from Derek over the years, and now when he's finally trying to be honorable he gets crapped on again.  That being said, I don't think he'll hold out much longer before he tries to break D out of zombie mode.  After all, he's all put back together now, thanks to Lexie (say it together now, awww).

I'm glad we finally know what's wrong with Izzie, a mo8p7aw[03oij aw; melanoma (or something close to that), she's only got a few months and a 5% survival rate.  FINALLY, WE KNOW.  I think the rest of the season is going to be her sort of saying goodbye to everyone (like she started to do with Alex and Meredith/Christina last night).  I teared up a little when Alex was excited about being the future of the hospital but he didn't want it if she wasn't right there with him.  Uh oh.  Last night I found myself thinking 'she's working on another Emmy nomination out of the rest of this season.'  If she keeps it up like last night, I'd say she's well on her way.  Good stuff.

I think we can also finally prepare for George to have some more meaty storylines, as we have discovered that he's been keeping his distance because of Alex, but he still cares and he's still here.  I predict he will come through big time when the secret is finally out.

Speaking of which, how long do you think until the secret is finally leaked?  I have to imagine it'll be at least a couple of weeks.  First we'll have to go through all of the Christina and Izzie drama now that Christina is the only person who knows.  I like that that was the first choice of people to tell because she's a robot who can take it.  I'm finally excited to see what's going to happen next, instead of frustrated and impatient for it to hurry up and get there.  I think Alex will be the last person to find out, and he'll probably first guess something wrong, like that she's sleeping with George again when he suddenly starts hanging around more.

Christina and Owen get more and more interesting every week.  I love that dynamic, where he's terrified of what he might do to her because he's so damaged and she's pretty much having to prove over and over that she can take it and she's not some fragile lady (like his ex fiancee).

Christina and Meredith talking about their respective man trouble at lunch was great, I've missed those kinds of conversations.  Izzie's commentary was excellent, "you guys are hilarious.  Do you even know what she just said?"  The nursing home bit about them talking at each other without their hearing aids was good stuff.

I love love love that Bailey called Adele in to smack sense into the Chief.  It may have been a little childish, but your options are pretty limited when the person you're having conflict with won't speak to you.  It felt like an extra prize or something...not only did we get a Bailey speech, but we got an Adele speech to go with it.  Love it!  Hopefully the Chief will finally simmer down about the peds thing and tap into his soft side to bring the hospital back together.

I don't have a lot to say about Callie this week, though I did like her exchange with Mark after she used him to hide from 'Arizona' due to embarassment over the bar situation.

The patients this week were pretty good: the band kid with the heart issue, the siblings with the scary stomach cancer.

I can't wait for next week!
