I have my daily issues, just like everybody. But it's been awhile since I've had a day quite like this one.
My alarm caused unnecessary confusion this morning when I went to snooze it the first time (I snooze three times, I need a buffer) because my phone was also trying to tell me I had email (I make it pull its weight by serving as many functions as possible) and it wouldn't allow me to find the sweet slumber I wanted without first acknowledging all the alerts it was giving me (this has never happened before). Not an encouraging start to the morning.
Upon my arrival at work, I heated up my breakfast (whole grain English muffin with peanut butter, yum), got my first cup of water for the morning, and proceeded to spill it all over my desk, wall, mouse, mouse pad, keyboard, lotion, etc. and spent the next 10 minutes running back and forth to the kitchenette gathering paper towels and mopping up water.
I then had to run to another one of our offices, which means I borrowed my boss' car. This happens pretty regularly, it's not a big deal. Well, there's something going on with the streets of Boston this morning, and traffic was even worse than usual (if you've driven here, you can only imagine). Anyway, coming back I got caught in this traffic situation, I couldn't turn onto the street I needed, and before I know it I'm on the Mass Turnpike headed west. I turned around at the first exit I could (in Cambridge) but it took an extra 15-20 minutes to make it back to my office. At least I have a pretty good sense of direction and managed to get off at the right exit and not make any further wrong turns.
I get back to the building, park the car, gather everything up, and head to the elevator. On the way, I stop and get a soda from the one machine in the country that still costs $1.00 for a 20oz (yes!). This caused my hands to be more full than I anticipated, so I got into the elevator and when trying to push the button for the floor I was going to, I accidentally hit all the buttons between the floor I was on and the floor I was going to. Which, I admit, was only two buttons, but still, how does that happen?
It's not even noon, I'm a little afraid.
