just a guy in the woods with some beer

Last night's Grey's episode:

Every time they showed "Blow Hole" I kept thinking to myself that the thing that guy had to be wearing to keep his lips pushed back probably started to really hurt after awhile.  Or they were using some more of the same CGI action they used for Two-Face in The Dark Knight.  Either way, yikes. His internet orchid club friends were so cute, especially the older lady.

I like Derek's mountain man beard.  I also like how they showed how dynamic a guy he is that when people go out to help snap him out of it he really just manages to sink them down into his depression.  Of course, Bailey did send quite possibly two of the most damaged people at that hospital to go get him, so that could have been a factor.

Good for the Chief not falling into his trap though, "because I'm older than you."  He knows better, Man.  Patrick Dempsey is kind of scary when he's mad.  I wouldn't want to be alone with him.

The intern love triangle was pretty funny, but nothing really stands out about it other than George finally got something to do for more than 10 seconds.  Meredith's 'bailey' speech in the bathroom was pretty funny.

I'm not sure I buy Mark letting Lexie scrub in and actually do stuff on his face transplant surgery, even if he is sleeping with her.  Remember a few seasons ago when he wouldn't even let Alex touch his patient?  Clearly it was a two person job to lift the face and position it, but I feel like he would have wanted Bailey or Callie or at least one of the non-interns to help on this surgery he's working toward for three years, I don't care how smart Lexie is.  But then we wouldn't have had all the other interns making fun of them.  I know he picked Izzie and then kicked her out when she started screaming at her interns, but why not get Alex or somebody else?

When Christina finally caved and told Alex and Bailey about Izzie right before cutting, at first I was like, "um, isn't that a major HIPAA violation?"  But then I was ok with it because even though Christina is A doctor, she's not Izzie's doctor, so she can pretty much tell whoever she wants.  I liked how she had to get it off her chest in order to be able to do her surgery (although I was clearly wrong in my prediction of how long it would take for everyone to find out).

Alex's seeming lack of a reaction is making me a little nervous, I do think that means we're headed for a meltdown.  However, as he's shown us, Alex Karev does a meltdown pretty well so it'll be good TV when it happens.

Now this could be me totally reading into things, but why did it seem like George's arrival on the 'turn Izzie into the patient' scene was the most dramatic?  He rushes in, their eyes meet, an understanding passes between them... and he was the only one who picked up something was wrong starting back weeks ago, despite the fact that he's been keeping his distance.  I guess I'm just not sure how he picked up that something was seriously wrong with her before Alex did.  Unless it's because Alex is so used to crazy (his mom, Ava) that nothing can really phase him anymore, which I guess I can go along with.  Still it seems like maybe Alex shouldn't have been totally blindsided when Christina blurted in the middle of surgery.  Though it would probably make for a less impressive meltdown later if he already suspected something.

Meredith was all about the speeches last night, first to the interns and then to Derek when she told him she would not still love him if he weren't a surgeon.  When she first said it I was like, 'whoa, harsh' but then she explained herself and it makes total sense.  I'm not sure I could respect someone with a gift for saving lives who just walks away from it either.  And in the end I think it was what he ultimately needed to hear.  Sort of a 'yea you messed up and killed somebody this time, but you are still one of twenty people in the world with a particular skill set and the people who come to you don't have much chance anyway so clearly a lot of them are going to die but get over it and get back to doing what you do.'

I'm really looking forward to every remaining episode this season, which is pretty great.
