The day after whatever shows I like are on, I always go online to read the recap and see if other people noticed/liked the same things that I noticed/liked. I also just like to relive things, which is why I will watch a movie over and over, buy TV shows on DVD and read every email I get at least three times.
Imagine my dismay when the recap for last night's How I Met Your Mother failed to show up on tvguide.com. Talk about your day ruiner (oh wait, no that was falling on the ice). I have decided to take matters into my own hands and do a rcap of my own.
Let me start out by saying that Dane Cook has this bit where he talks about how there's one person in every group of friends that nobody else really likes very much. His hypothetical friend is named Karen, and his zinger is that behind her back everyone always says, "Karen is such a douche." That immediately sprung to mind when Ted's ex girlfriend showed up and she was clearly pretty douchy, and her name was Karen. Set the tone right away.
These are my highlights:
Laura Prepon looked way better in last night's show than she did during the entire run of That 70's Show. I don't know why.
I love how the flashbacks always bring back situations that we're already familiar with instead of manufacturing new ones to fit the circumstances (which I think shows how great the writing is in this show). Barney having a meal with Wendy the waitress and Robin having a meal with the sports guy from Metro News One (both from "The Platinum Rule"*).
I like how Barney is still convinced that Wendy is trying to kill him, even though she may be the least psycho ex girlfriend anyone's ever had.
This may just be me, but the waiter from when Ted was having lunch with Karen looked a LOT like Scooter to me. I'd have to watch it again to see if it really was him, but after he and Lily had lunch and he said that if she liked waiters he'd be the best waiter ever, if they got someone who looked just like him to actually play a waiter, that's tricky. I prefer to think it was actually him. Which would make sense, because Lily grew up in NYC (right?) and he was her high school boyfriend so it's not completely outside the realm of possibility.
I think the rest of the season is going to see a lot more scenes taking place at the bar because of both Lily and Robin being pregnant in real life. You can't exactly tone down both the female leads' parts at the same time. I don't really have an opinion on this, I'm just making an observation.
I like how Marshall didn't go home after work to change out of the pants that Barney shredded, but just kept on wearing them. That might have been funnier than the whole pants story (with the exception of Barney's reaction to it).
The funniest part of Robin's sleeping pill sleepwalking was when she saw Ted and Karen making out on the couch and said, "Hi Ted, hi Lily. Don't worry, I won't tell Marshall."
When Ted was breaking up with Karen and he said, "blah blah blah, au revoir" and Karen replied, "actually, au revoir means 'until I see you again' blah blah blah" I thought of "Spoiler Alert"* when Robin noticed that Ted is always correcting people with "actually..." So I guess we know where he got that.
It looks as though Karen will be back again next week, I hope the shenanigans get outrageous. I'm trying to figure out who I think Ted will catch her sleeping with. Originally I was going to say Barney, but since we already went there with Robin I think someone else. Maybe someone random, but I think it would be better if it was someone we've seen before. Oooh, maybe she'll officially come on to Marshall and Lily will take her out. That would be pretty sweet.
*It's entirely possible that I watch this show too much. I'm ok with that.

I love HIMYM too! I'm getting Jeff in to it too. Barney is the best! I didn't know both Lilly and Robin are prego in real life. Funny! That should make for an interesting rest of the season.
I just watched it (very busy here at MOS) and it is definitely Scooter as the waiter although it is too bad it wasn't the original Scooter :) When Marshall called Lilly to bring his pants it was hilarious that a huge globe was in front of her belly.
