Weekends 'round here have been on the tame side lately, with a serious lack of wild times and crazy shenanigans. Which is always worthwhile every now and again, particularly when people are trying to save money for various real life things they have going on.
Many of our Fridays recently look like this:
I hang out with the girls right after work on Friday, we either go shopping, take in a movie, etc. Afterward we start thinking about getting some dinner at which time we call Sacha and he shoots that down because he won't leave his apartment, so we just go to Floyd's Cove and hang out where Sacha tries to convince me to watch Wife Swap or all of us to play SingStar. I always say no to the first, and we all usually shoot down the second because we're tired or someone is falling asleep already or some people have bad voices (me) and other people cheat and win all the time like punks BUT IT'S FINE. ahem.
The rest of our weekends usually look like this:
Everyone else has grownup things to do because they actually are grownups and I am not so I watch a lot of movies and basically do nothing of value.
However, this past Saturday I got a text from Toni fairly early letting me know that Sacha and Alisa had decided to go to NYC all spur of the moment and she (Toni) opted not to go. We decided we'd do fun girlie movie time or something later on.
Round about 5:00 I got a phone call from Toni, stating that she had been sitting on her couch all day (I was doing much the same) and that maybe we should go out for a drink somewhere. I immediately jumped on this as a fantastic idea and we set about deciding where to go. Someplace with an ok vibe, that's pretty chill, and easy to get to (i.e. doesn't require actually driving into Boston, or driving anywhere for that matter). We finally settle on this hotel/restaurant that's actually in our neighborhood and while I've heard bad things about the food (apparently everything tastes like Ritz crackers) it has a cute little lounge, so we put on our fancy shoes and had some cocktails (it is a universal truth that everything is better with fancy shoes).
After about three hours and four drinks each, we came to the conclusion that perhaps having skipped dinner was not the best way to go. We set off for Floyd's Cove, in search of food. Upon getting into the house, we took one look at each other and determined (quite rightly) that neither of us was in any condition to operate an oven. We ordered pizza, and then proceeded to pour ourselves some more drinks (because clearly that was what we needed). After eating the glorious, glorious pizza, Toni had the brilliant idea of playing SingStar.
Let me tell you, we are a couple of talented ladies. TALENTED. I think you'd be hard pressed to find two people who can belt out a power ballad with more gusto than the two of us (particularly after several cocktails). Add in the dance moves and forget about it. You can't take us. We played until about two in the morning when finally our voices were getting so hoarse we could barely speak anymore, let alone sing.
I collected my belongings and returned to my apartment, where I collapsed into my bed.
It was a fantastic evening, and I most definitely paid for it with a hangover all day yesterday which caused me to go to bed at 7:30 and sleep until this morning. I'm not quite the rock star I used to be (except when I'm playing SingStar, obviously).
